I have a belief that when I write an opinion that is published by the Gazette, an opinion that some may choose to disagree with, I let it go and move on to the next topic that catches my attention.
But a weekly column isn't a blog, a blog isn't a weekly column and here I can respond to the responses.
One letter writer posited that maybe I don't have infants or toddlers at home who I want to protect from being startled out of their sleep by the sound of wide open throttles at 3:00 a.m.
"Maybe she doesn't have any infants or toddlers that she doesn't want startled out of their sleep."
No I don't my babies are out of the house, one is teaching boat handling techniques off the coast of Africa and the other will soon be protecting convoys in the middle east. Oh that my only worry was the sound of motorcycles.
But my children aside, the greivances noted may have had merit if the dragnet set up to catch these dangerous noise polluters was staged at 3:00 a.m. and not p.m. Instead the letter had a bit of a neener neener, I can't hit you when you split lanes while I'm stuck in traffic but I can whine long and loud enough to the coppers and they'll give you a ticket for being too loud, feel to it.
"When motorcycles split traffic at 50 MPH I don't notice them until they are already blowing by me."
However the emotion behind the writer's conclusion was the most telling, that'll teach you for grabbing away all my attention.
"It isn't easy finding bad guys lurking in the darkness but is sure is easy finding and citing the owners of these obnoxious "look at me" motorcycles".
