Beaver Festival Denouement

With the Beaver Festival out of the way - I have a bit more time to focus on our first ever parade.

I hear Main Street Martinez will be taking the lead on planning the 4th of July celebrations for 2009. Good deal! Without the city kicking in the funds for essential city services, we're looking at a ballpark figure of $40,000 necessary for a parade and that's just the beginning.

Since Martinez has never had a parade there will also be a lot of first time costs like bunting, banners and flags so I expect that figure to change dramatically. Lastly there's the cost of advertising, so having a fiscal receiver such as the nonprofit Main Street Martinez will be awfully handy.

Stay tuned - I understand there's a planning commission being formed at the end of this month.
