4th Of July Exploratory Meeting

I met with Nora Pastrick, the City of Concord’s 4th of July parade organizer, and she has graciously offered herself as an ongoing resource to me. I was amazed to discover she has been organizing the parade for something like 16 years with zero budget. Apparently Concord’s redevelopment agency sets aside the funds necessary to pay for the costs of essential city services like police, fire, emergency responders and maintenance, etc.

In addition to the possibility of having to cover those on our own, there’s advertising, insurance, grandstand/pa, parade route decorations, etc. My next goal is to outline what those could be and identify possible resources. I already have a special event insurance resource that proved to be very reasonable for our 1st annual Beaver Festival, August 2, 2008.

I was very encouraged after my meeting that the City of Martinez can and will have a parade we all can be proud of.
